Audio Controls

Description
Controlling the audio channels is very easy. If an input consists of a video and audio signal, like my signal here for example, and I add that input to a scene and go live, both signals will be broadcast. The now gray-colored volume button labelled “Auto” has turned red. This is an additional check so that you always have an overview of which audio channels are currently on air.
I can adjust my microphone input signal here at the top. The strength of the audio signal can be read from the Gain display. I can set the desired broadcast volume for my audio signal directly above this.

Now, when I go live with a scene that isn’t receiving my input, for example like Scene 1.2 here that’s only showing a picture, then my audio will no longer be broadcast. At the same time, the red button in my Input has turned gray. If I still want to broadcast my audio signal, even though my video signal isn’t currently in the picture, I need to activate the Global Mode above in my Input. Now the button is red and my audio signal will be constantly broadcast whether I’m in the picture or not.

Of course, all of that works with multiple inputs too. Here’s an example with four inputs, whereby the last signal consists of an audio signal without video. In Scene 1, three video signals are combined. When I go live with this scene, all three audio signals also go live. Now I’ll add the fourth Input manually using the Global function. On top of this, I can control the volume of all inputs, even the inputs from other members of my crew.

A few more words about feedback: When you’re operating the studio yourself and broadcasting your own audio signal, everything is ok. But as soon as you broadcast an interview scene, meaning you simultaneously broadcast an additional audio channel, for example from a crew member, you need to wear headphones to avoid feedback.

For more complex broadcasts, it makes sense to put one of your crew members in charge of the audio. For this, it’s important to understand how the automatically activated Monitor function works. You can find more information about that in our FAQ’s.
